One day I was looking in the mirror and said to myself,
"How in the hell is a guy that looks like me going to get chics?"
Then it came to me.... I'll become a musician! Well, my voice sucks so vocals were out. Perhaps a bassist? No, they don't get girls. Drums? No, my sense of timing is terrible. After seeing a "Keytar" in the late eighties...well, absolutely not. Electric guitar seemed to be my only option.
I use Jackson, Ibanez, Peavey, Music Man, and Ovation guitars. I use Mesa Boogie, Marshall, and Carvin amplification. I use Marshall, Carvin, Ear Candy, and Avatar speaker enclosures. I use TC Electronic effects as well as Shure and Morley accessories.
Hello, Thanks for checking out my profile! Lifetime musician, started playing drums and have played bass in past but my main focus has always been piano and keyboards. I love writing music and hopefully playing out soon with my latest project.
I began learning the art of drumming at thirteen, playing along and learning by ear with cassette tapes and CD's. By fifteen, I began racking up live show experience in the form of high school talent shows, open mic nights, as well as my own various bands.
As we fast forward twenty-six years, my experiences have seen me through as a member or in collaboration with at least seventeen cover or original bands. Some long term, some short term, and some temporary or stand-in projects. I have touched on many genres - Metal, Progressive Rock/Metal, Hard Rock, Classic Rock, Grunge, Alternative, Blues, and Funk.
The main elements of my drumming are a melting pot of Prog, Metal, and Hard Rock. I have been described as a mixture of Mike Portnoy and Tommy Lee, among others. I am not sure how accurate that is. I just do what I do and have always done: push myself, work hard, and enjoy the outcome. Rock on!!
I play PDP drums, Evans heads, Sabian AAX cymbals, DW pedals, DW and RAC snares, LP jam blocks and tambourines, and DW, Gibraltar, and Sound Percussion hardware.
In complete condratiction to hailing from the "South Side", Paul started playing baseball for the Cubs as a wee lad. After a few years of sucking at baseball, he 'dropped the ball' and took up bass guitar. Then some other stuff happened, blah, blah, blah and here we are today: bassist of the rolling thunder rythm section known called SOL.
